I wrote this after reading, once again, Stephen King’s novella “Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption” and, having seen the film a number of times, might even have “borrowed” some words from Andy or Ellis

Hope I know is a dangerous thing
Can break your heart and steal your soul
Hope I know binds us all together
Breaks down walls, gives us a goal
Trapped within these four stone walls
On the inside looking out
Trapped inside the path of the storm
With the pain of guilt and doubt
Nothing changes, nothing stays the same
Nothing moves, nothing left to gain
Nothing grows, nothing fades away
Nothing different at the end of the day
Hope we know is a good thing maybe
And no good thing ever dies
Hope is ever the best of things
The heart of things, never lies
Dare to think beyond the pale
Freedom comes to those who dream
No more sitting on the fence
Freedom comes to those who scheme
Nothing changes, nothing stays the same
Nothing moves, nothing left to gain
Nothing grows, nothing fades away
Nothing different at the end of the day
One of these mornings I will still be here
I’ll hear you call but you could (well) be gone
Far beyond these walls that hold you
Freedom calling, wake in the dawn
